Working as a police facility design specialist, Leach Mounce Architects performed the needs assessment and evaluated ten sites in downtown Middletown for location of a new police headquarters. As a sub consultant to Jeter, Cook, Jepson, Architects, Inc., Leach Mounce did preliminary design concepts, identified programmatic needs for 53,000 s.f. of building area, 3,880 s.f. garage, parking for 183 cars and adjacency requirements for long term staffing needs. The design illustrates a 3-story building based on design guidelines reconstructing one of Middletown’s historic structures that had been demolished. It is located on Main Street and is a mixed use structure with retail at the front. The $9.9 million project was approved by voters in a November, 1996 funding referendum.
