This rural facility, which will serve both the adjacent county airport and the town of Santa Ynez, is an adaptation of a prototype designed for the county fire department. The elevations have been tailored to the western Victorian style desired by the architectural review committee of Santa Ynez. The structure features natural daylighting through skylights and a ventilation system that removes exhaust from the apparatus room. Designed to accommodate both men and women crew members, the sleeping accommodations are separated from the living, dining, recreation and operational spaces so that crew members can sleep with minimal disturbances while off duty.
